Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has thanked his people for the resounding victory scored by the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Saturday’s House of Assembly election by staging a 10km road show in Benin, the state capital.
The APC won 20 seats against the Peoples’ Democratic Party’s three, with one seat declared inconclusive.
The governor said the election confirmed the people’s resolve to do away with politics of godfatherism.
“You know I told you some few years back, we terminated godfatherism when we voted again and again to bury the godfather but as we bury them, Abuja puts them on oxygen mask.
“We now have a completely new energetic, imaginative, rugged and dogged political leadership,” the governor told the jubilant crowd that gathered at Oba Ovoramwem Square.
Oshiomhole, who described the election as a “referendum between the godfathers and the people,” said despite the offensive campaigns of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, the will of the people prevailed.
“They did advertorials, they did all kind of abusive campaigns but today, like I told you at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, people like us conquered fear many years ago,” he boasted.
The governor thanked the people for standing by him despite pressure from the PDP-led federal government and promised to repay the support by doing more in delivering good governance.
