At least 10 people were killed and 60 others injured on Sunday after a female suicide bomber blew herself up at a mobile phone market in Azare, Bauchi State.
This bomb explosion came barely a week after a blast rocked a First Bank Automatic Teller Machine, ATM, killing bank customers withdrawing money from the machine.
No group or persons have claimed responsibility for the explosion, but similar attacks have been carried out in the region by the Boko Haram Islamist terrorists who are waging an insurgency war against the Nigerian state.
Residents said the suicide bomber entered the market around at 5:50 pm accompanied by two men, one of whom was killed by angry youths after the deadly explosion.
“The two men tried to flee but they were pursued and apprehended. One of them was lynched to death whereas the other is now in custody,” a witness told newsmen.
Traders who sustained injuries from the explosion were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare.
Azare is situated in the northern part of Bauchi State and is about 200 kilometers from the state capital and the second biggest town in the state.
It has been attacked many times by insurgents since the Boko Haram insurgency began.
