AFRICA No Filter is inviting journalists and storytellers in Nigeria and nine other African countries to apply for the Voices for Climate Justice initiative.
The 12-month programme is delivered in partnership with Comic Relief, and will support 15–20 storytellers with training, mentorship, content amplification and grants of up to US$4,000 to create powerful stories that spark public conversation and inspire action.
The organiser says” We’re looking for creative ideas that can help explain how climate change, debt, gender, and fossil fuels affect people and communities across Africa; whether you tell stories through video, podcasts, articles, murals, data visualisation, we want to hear from you.”
Selected storytellers will receive training in climate justice, data storytelling, and narrative framing before working with researchers and partners to develop accurate, engaging stories based on research.
Grantees will be selected based on the originality of their idea, relevance to ANF’ mission of storytelling beyond stereotypes, relevance to the gender-debt-fossil fuel focus and reach or standing within their platform or community.
Applicants must be 18 or older and based in one of the eligible countries, including Nigeria. They must also have an active platform that has been running for at least one year. Journalists can demonstrate reach through their publication’s circulation.
Selected participants must produce at least four pieces of content over a minimum of six months.
The organiser says, “Across much of Africa, climate finance is arriving as debt rather than as the grants it should be. Instead of receiving support that reflects the continent’s minimal contribution to the crisis, African nations are being pushed further into debt through loans, with many governments spending more on debt repayment than on health or climate adaptation combined”.
The deadline for applications is September 25, 2026. Interested applicants can apply here.
