The Inspector-General of Police, I-GP, Solomon Arase, on Thursday advised all police commands across the country to desist from illegal detention of suspects.
Arase who gave the warning during a visit to the command in Gusau, Sokoto State urged it to deploy more of intelligence in tracking and arresting suspects.
“For the police to continue to earn public trust and respect, we must continue to evolve more ways of fair play and justice in all our dealings.
“Police must carry out an efficient investigation before inviting a suspect. Intelligence-led policing is now the most recognized way of handling cases by the police,” he said
This added, will also translate into a better relationship between the police and the public.
The police chief urged all commands to establish more linkages with unions and associations within their domains for effective flow of information.
“If you create a good and effective information flow channel, it will be difficult for criminals to operate’’, he said.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Olufemi David thanked the I-GP for his support to the command, admitting that the special attention it has been getting had helped to curtail the activities of criminals in the state.
