Army arrest Boko Haram mastermind of Benue herdsmen killings

 

 

Aminu Yaminu, suspected Boko Haram commander and the alleged mastermind of recent killings in Benue State has been arrested by the army, according to Daily Trust.

The suspect, also known as Tashaku, was arrested by the combined troops of 707 Special Forces Brigade, the Police and the Department of State Security Services in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.




     

     

    “Following an intelligence report, it was gathered that Aminu has concluded plans with his cohorts in Bauchi, Borno, Yobe and Nasarawa states to launch a major attack on innocent citizens in Benue state,” said a statement by Olabisi Ayeni, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 707 Special Forces Brigade in Makurdi.

    “As earlier reinstated, Nigerian Army will ensure enemies of peace in the state are brought to justice. Nigerian Army encourages all law-abiding citizens to go about their lawful businesses without fear.”

    The army called on citizens to provide it and other security agencies with timely information that could lead to the arrests of criminal elements in the society.

    Benue State has become the epicentre of hate crimes as investigation by the ICIR uncovered alarming humanitarian crisis in the state.
