Bar Association Gets New President

Members of the Nigeria Bar Association have elected a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Augustine Alegeh, to succeed Okey Wali, as President of the group.

Alegeh, who until now was the chairman of the database and documentation of the Nigerian lawyers committee , polled 691 votes to defeat four other candidates in the election which held on Tuesday in Abuja.




     

     

    The runner-up, Oladele Adeshina, polled 370 votes, Olufunke Adekoya (SAN) polled 255 votes, Adeniyi Akintola (SAN), 126 votes and Osas Erhabor, 17 votes.

    Three of the votes were invalid and five were blank.

    Delegates registered for the election were 1, 728 among which 1, 482 were accredited to participate in the poll.

    The President-elect and other elected officers will be sworn in Owerri, Imo State, on August 29 during NBA’s Annual General Conference.
