Nineteen Boko Haram members were killed on Friday in an attack carried out on a major stronghold of the insurgency group at Chukungudu, Borno State by a combined team of troops of 22 Brigade Garrison, the 153 Task Force Battalion, 7 and 8 Task Force Division of the Nigeria Air Force Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance and the Civilian JTF.
Spokesman for the Nigeria Army, Colonel Sani Usman, made this known in a press release on Friday.
The nineteen insurgents killed in the encounter include a notorious terrorist commander known as Ameer Abubakar Gana. The army said that two soldiers were wounded during the operation and that they are very stable and are being treated at a Field Ambulance.
The troops recovered various arms and ammunitions including two Anti-Aircraft Guns, one AK-47, one Pistol, one Rocket Propelled Gun bomb, one AK-47 magazine, 267 rounds of 7.62mm metal links ammunition and 23 rounds of 12.7mm belt ammunition, one Gun truck, one Canter truck, one Toyota Hilux and one Land Rover Vehicle.
The military team also discovered and destroyed a bomb making factory, and successfully detonated four Improvised Explosive Devices.
