Fourteen soldiers and 11 policemen were killed Monday evening in Buni Yadi, Gujba local government area of Yobe state by suspected Boko Haram members.
Residents of the area said the insurgents staged a massive two-hour attack on the town that saw all security and military formations in the town set ablaze, not sparing the area court and district head’s residence and office.
Some security personnel who do not want their names in print told journalists on phone that 14 corpses of soldiers and 11 corpses of policemen were conveyed to Damaturu Specialist Hospital mortuary.
A resident of the area said the insurgents drove into the town in Hilux vans and hoisted the sect’s flag, before proceeding to the military formation in the town from where they launched the attack.
He said the insurgents specifically told people that their mission in the town was to revenge on the security agencies who attacked them at Alagarno a week ago and killed some of their members.
This is the third attack to be carried out in the area by the Boko Haram insurgents this year.
