President Muhammadu Buhari has made his first set of appointments, more than 24 hours after his inauguration.
The managing director of The Sun newspaper and president of Nigerian Guild of Editors, Femi Adesina, is special adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, while Garba Shehu, who served as the head of Buhari’s campaign media team, is senior special assistant on Media and Publicity.
The President also appointed Lawal Abdullahi Kazaure as the State House Chief of Protocol. Kazaure, a career diplomat, recently served as special assistant on presidential matters in the presidency.
Adesina began his career in journalism 28 years ago with Vanguard newspaper before moving to Concord newspaper where he rose to become editor. He then moved The Sun Where he became managing director and editor-in-chief. The 2007 Nigeria Media Merit Award Editor of the Year was elected as chairman of Nigerian Guild of Editors in 2013 and re-elected for another term last month.
Shehu was the APC campaign director of media and publicity. He served as editor of Triumph newspaper in Kano and headed the media team of former vice president Atiku Abubakar for many years.
