Buhari Appoints New INEC Chairman, Five Commissioners

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday appointed Mahmood Yakubu as the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, along with five new national commissioners.

Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, who spoke to State Houses correspondents after the first meeting of the Council of State meeting presided over by Buhari, confirmed the approval of the appointments.

The national commissioners are Amina Zakari (North-West); Anthonia Okoosi-Simbine (North Central); Baba Shettima Arfo (North-East); Mohammed Mustafa Lecky (South-South) and Mr. Soyebi Adedeji Solomon (South-West).

Yakubu now succeeds former INEC Boss Attahiru Jega, who completed his tenure in June.
