MINISTER of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, says President Muhammadu Buhari will dissolve the present Federal Executive Cabinet on May 22, exactly seven days to his second term inauguration.
Mohammed said this while addressing journalists after the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Thursday.
Last week, President Buhari, through the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, directed each minister to turn in a comprehensive status report on policies, programs and projects” of their respective ministries, departments and agencies.
In the circular, the SGF, Boss Mustapha, also advised the ministers to first submit all memoranda they intend to present before the FEC to the Cabinet Affairs Office of the SGF on or before Tuesday, 30th April 2019.
The directive prompted speculations that the cabinet has been dissolved, but Mohammed clarified on Thursday that that was not the case.
“The cabinet is still intact. We are going to have the valedictory service on the 22nd of May. So you will still see more of my face,” he said.
Thursday’s FEC meeting was presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as President Buhari is away on a working visit to Maiduguri, Borno State, from where he would jet off to the United Kingdom on a “private visit”.
The President is expected back in the country on May 5.
