From Jefferson Ibiwale, Benin

Proprietor of the King of Kings College in Benin, Rotimi Olayebi Edwards, has been remanded at Oko Prisons in the city by an Egor Magistrate Court for allegedly sexually assaulting 11 female students.

The presiding Magistrate, Igho Braimoh, deferred hearing on the suspect’s bail application when it was mentioned by his lawyer till a later date.

A parent of one of the victims who explained how her daughter was defiled called on the security agencies to investigate the matter for her daughter to get justice.

Coordinator of Child Protection Network, Jennifer Ero, who was present at the court, said the organisation will ensure the children get justice.

Edwards, 47, was allegedly caught after close monitoring by suspicious neighbours and parents who became worried at why some female pupils remained in school till 5pm -6pm every day.

After some parents questioned their daughters, they confessed to them that the school principal had been having affairs with them in the school.

The parents in turn reported to the CPN, a non-governmental organization, NGO, renowned for ensuring that rape victims get justice.

The matter has been adjourned till May 26.
