‘Dancing Senator’ secures narrow victory in Osun PDP governorship primary

Ademola Adeleke, senator representing Osun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, will be the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the governorship election scheduled to hold in the state on September 22.

Adeleke, who is popular for churning out new dance styles at every social event he attends, secured victory with the narrowest of margins, polling a total of 1569 votes to his opponent’s 1562, a difference of just seven votes.

His major opponent was Akin Ogunbiyi, a businessman and co-founder of the elephant group.

The PDP officials who monitored the process, led by Seriake Dickson, Governor of Bayelsa State, had to order a recount of the votes to ensure that Adeleke’s victory was no mistake.

Before the voting process began, seven out of the initial 11 governorship aspirants withdrew from the process, leaving only Adeleke, Ogunbiyi, Fatai Akinbade and Nathaniel Oke to finish the race.

Akinbade and Oke polled 56 and three votes respectively.

The aspirants that withdrew from the race included:  Adeolu Durotoye, Sunkanmi Akinlabi, Felix Jumoko,  Lere Akogun, Jide Adeniji, Ayoade Adewepo and Adejare Bello.

Adeleke, younger brother to late Isiaka Adeleke, a former Senator who died in April 2017, will slug it out with Isiaka Oyetola, Chief of staff to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
