Ebonyi Assembly Removes Speaker

The Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chukwuma Nwazunku, has been impeached Monday.




     

     

    Nwazunku was removed by 18 out of the 24 members of the House and the member representing Abakaliki South state constituency, Helen Nwaobasi, was immediately elected to replace him.

    Prior to the impeachment, the lawmakers had lifted the suspension placed on three of their colleagues – Frank Onwe, Eni Uduma Chime and deputy speaker, Blaise Orji.

    Onwe thereafter, moved the motion for the speaker’s impeachment which was seconded by the Minority Leader, Enyi C. Enyi.

    Thereafter, Eni Uduma Chima, representing Afikpo South West, moved the motion for election of Nwaobasi as the new Speaker and the motion was seconded Jerry Obasi.
