Edo Police Arrests Man For Killing Father Over Cigarette

The police in Benin, Edo State, have arrested and detained a 22-year-old man, Bestman Momodu, who allegedly killed his father over a missing stick of cigarette.



Momodu, was among 68 suspects paraded before journalists in Benin on Monday for committing various offences ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, illegal possession of firearms, rape, cultism, defilement, unlawful possession of fake product to obtaining money under false pretence and impersonation.

According to the state Commissioner of Police, Foluso Adebanjo, who paraded the suspects, Momodu stabbed his father Zuberu Momodu, with a machete, following an argument over a missing stick of cigarette.




     

     

    The incident reportedly took place at their home in Ubiane Aviele, Etsako West local government area of Edo State, on August 16, 2014.

    Adebanjo said that Momodu admitted to the crime and the machete with which he allegedly committed the crime has been recovered by the Police.

    Adebanjo said the police would continue to ensure the security of lives and properties of residents of the state and called on the press and the people to partner with it to combat crime by volunteering useful information.

    “We must all work together for a peaceful society. It is not for the police alone”, Adebanjo said.
