EFCC to Establish Unit To Tackle Procurement Fraud

The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, said that the agency would soon create a Procurement Fraud Unit, PFU, to strengthen its capacity to fight corruption.

Magu stated this on Wednesday at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja while receiving members of a coalition of civil society organisations who paid him a courtesy call in his office.

“I am so concerned about procurement fraud. I am thinking of establishing a Unit, purely on procurement fraud. When put in place, it will go a long way in checking corruption”, the EFCC chairman said.

Magu observed that the war against corruption is not an easy task that can be left to anti-corruption agencies alone to fight and solicited the support of civil society community and other stakeholders in combatting the malaise.

“The task of fighting corruption is herculean and should not be left in the hands of anti-corruption agencies alone. Your participation and support for the anti-corruption fight is key. Most importantly, I need your help to do the job. Let’s put heads together and move this country forward”, he urged.

In his comments earlier, chairman of the Civil Society Network Against Corruption, CSNAC, Lanre Suraju, said the CSOs  were in the commission to congratulate the new acting chairman on his appointment and explore areas where the coalition could partner with or support the anti-graft agency in the fight against corruption.

While describing the acting EFCC chairman as courageous and incorruptible officer, Suraju assured him of his group’s support in steps being taken to stamp out corruption in the country.
