Police Women Attacked, Stripped Naked In Benin

Three female police officers from the Oregbeni police division in Benin, the Edo State capitalwere Tuesday stripped naked after they were seriously beaten by residents of Oregbeni quarters in Benin.

Reports indicate that the police officers went to make an arrest at the Oregbeni quarters located at the Ikpoba-Okha local government area in Benin when they were beaten and stripped naked before being taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical treatment.

It was reported that the police women were called by a landlady in the area to arrest one of her tenants when a brawl ensued.

Trouble began when the tenant maintained that she would take her bath before going to the police station with the police women, a request which the officers refused to honour.

This  resulted into an argument, which led to other residents in the area to join hands with the tenant to attack officers.

The landlady who confirmed the incident said that she called on the police to make the arrest because she had given the tenant quit notice.

“When the police came to make arrest, they started fighting the police. I ran for my life and hid at the other compound,” she said.

An eyewitness said the landlady had always been harassing and intimidating tenants in her house with the police.

The Edo state Commissioner of Police, Foluso Adebanjo, also confirmed the incident and expressed displeasure over the attack on the three police officers, adding that the command would take the matter with seriousness.
Adebanjo said the perpetrators would be made to face full weight of the law.
