THE Federal Government has declared Monday, September 16 as a public holiday to mark the Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration.
The Eid-ul-Mawlid is a celebration to commemorate the birth of Muhammad, the prophet.
This was made known on Friday, September 13 in a statement by the minister of interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
“The Federal Government has declared Monday, 16th September 2024 as a Public Holiday to mark the celebration of the Eid-ul-Mawlid, the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated Muslim Ummah both at home and in the Diaspora on this occasion,” the statement read in parts.
The minister further urged the Muslim faithful to uphold the spirit of patience and implored them to pray for peace.
