The federal government on Wednesday ordered the immediate closure of all land and sea borders from midnight on Thursday, April 9 until midnight on Sunday.
The directive is meant to ensure the smooth conduct of the governorship and state House of Assembly elections slated to hold across all the states of the federation on Saturday.
The interior ministry said that land and sea borders would be closed to allow security agencies monitor activities in the country during the elections.
It said, however, that the air space would be open for air travel in and out of the country.
The state elections are coming two weeks after the conduct of the presidential polls won by Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate.
The nation’s land borders were equally shut shortly before the April 28 presidential elections
