Former NSA Dasuki Opposes Government’s Move To Revoke Bail

Former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, a retired Colonel, on Tuesday filed an objection before Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court in Abuja against the federal government’s application seeking to nullify the bail granted him by the court.

Dasuki said the government’s action was in bad taste and disrespectful to the decision of the court and urged the court to throw out the application in accordance with the provision of the constitution that states that all parties must obey the decision of a court.

The federal government is asking the court to vacate the order granting bail to the former security chief to prevent him from leaving the country, especially in the light of revelations coming out from the investigative panel set up to look into arms purchases in the past.

Counsel to the government, Oladipo Opeseyitan, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, told the court that he wanted to make two applications to revoke the bail granted the accused and also to stay the order directing the release of his passport.

Opeseyitan, however, said he would need time to study the defence’s application, as he was only issued the application in court.

Counsel to Dasuki, Joseph Daudu, also a SAN, did not object to Okpeseyitan’s request, prompting the court to adjourn the matter to January 20, 2016.
