GOOGLE News Initiative launches the News Equity Fund, a global commitment to provide financial support and opportunities to news organisations that primarily serve underrepresented communities.
The News Equity Fund is open to independent newsrooms employing between one to 50 full-time journalists.
Small and medium-sized news organisations around the world can apply for funding.
According to the organisation, the aim is to strengthen inclusion, further empower a diverse news ecosystem and specifically support small and medium-sized publishers creating original journalism for underrepresented audiences around the world.
Eligible applicants may include for-profit or non-profit traditional news organisations, digital natives, newsletters, podcasts, radio and/or TV broadcasters and trade press associations whose members cover under-represented groups.
Funding amounts will vary depending on the size of the newsroom and the number of eligible applications received.
The deadline for submission of applications is July 21, 2022. Interested persons can apply here.
