The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Solomon Arase, has assured the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of adequate protection of its personnel and materials during the upcoming polls in Kogi and Bayelsa States.
He also said that police personnel were already getting ready to be deployed to the two states to give the electoral body maximum support as it prepares to conduct the polls.
According to a statement issued today by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, the IGP and the acting chairman of INEC, Amina Zakari, explored ways through which the existing cordial relationship between the two organizations could be further strengthened.
The statement added that the IGP had given orders to the police commissioners in the affected states to render adequate cooperation to the electoral body.
In her remarks, according to the statement, Zakari appreciated the efforts of the police in past polls but added that the INEC was optimistic that the police would increase the level of support in the coming months.
