The U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, has met President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
Secretary Kerry, earlier on Tuesday, had been in Sokoto State where he met with Governor, Aminu Tambuwal and the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III.
He arrived the presidential villa at about 3:05pm on Tuesday, was received by the State house Chief of Protocol, Lawal Kazaure, who led him into the president’s office.
Talks between both leaders reportedly focused on strengthening bilateral ties between Nigeria and America, as well as further assistance from America towards addressing the Nigerian economy, militancy, terrorism, human rights issues and the fight against corruption.
Kerry was accompanied by Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs in the United States Department of State’s Bureau of African Affairs.
The American envoy will also meet with governors of Borno, Benue, Kwara, Bauchi, Adamawa, Sokoto and Zamfara states.
