Reports say two bomb explosions went off on Monday morning in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, a day after suspected Boko Haram insurgents tried to gain entrance into the city.
Unconfirmed reports say that scores of people might have been killed in the attacks.
According to residents in the state capital, the explosions were heard at the Polo area and a mosque but they were not thought to be suicide attacks.
A security agent, who did not give his name, told the www.icirnigeria.org that he heard an explosion around 7:00am but that normalcy had returned to the city.
“Yes, there was an explosion this morning but I thought it was the military engaging the insurgents,” he said. “As I speak with you now, Maiduguri is calm and people are going about their activities normally.”
The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Northeast coordinator, Mohammed Kanar, did not respond to a text message sent to get details of the incident.
