The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Monday commenced impeachment proceedings against the governor, Tanko Al-Makura.
The Assembly has directed its clerk, Ego Maikeffi, to serve Al-Makura with the impeachment notice for alleged gross misconduct and misappropriation of funds.
The notice was signed by 20 of the 24 lawmakers in the state assembly during a sitting presided over by the Speaker, Ahmed Mohammed.
Mohammed also directed that in the event that the governor could not be reached for service, the impeachment notice should be served through the media.
The 16-count charge against the governor borders on alleged extra-budgetary expenses.
Nasarawa has 20 Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, lawmakers and four All Progressives Congress, APC, lawmakers.
Al-Makura, a member of the APC, has had a frosty relationship with the state Assembly since he became governor and has had to appear before members to answer questions about the running of the state.
