Nigeria Loses Army General In Road Accident

The Nigerian army has announced the death of its Chief of Training and Operations, Yushau Mahmood Abubakar, a Major General, who was involved in a ghastly motor accident along Maiduguri-Damaturu road Tuesday.

The accident is said to have occurred around Benishiekh town, a distance of about 70 kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.




     

     

    Abubakar was the immediate past Theatre Commander of the counterinsurgency campaign in the North east, Operation Lafiya Dole, before his posting to Army Headquarters.

    The army in a statement issued by Sani Usma Kukaasheka, its acting Director of Public Relations, said that the Acting General Officer Commanding 3 Division, MSA Aliyu, a Brigadier General, was also involved in the crash and is currently receiving medical treatment.

    Abubakar was believed to have been traveling from Maiduguri en route Damaturu to Buni Yadi in Yobe State, where he was billed to attend a military graduation ceremony. He was aid to have flown from Abuja to Maiduguri and was received at the Maiduguri International Airport by Aliyu, who then accompanied him on the journey to Damaturu.

    The injured Aliyu and the driver are said to be receiving treatment at the Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital, Damaturu but there are indication that they would be flown to Abuja for better medical care.
