Nigerian singer Tems nominated for MTV Award

NIGERIAN musician and international sensation Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has earned an MTV Video Music Awards nomination for her collaboration with American Rapper Future on his hit single ‘Wait For U’.

The single from Future’s album, ‘I Never Liked You’, which also featured Drake, was nominated in the Best Hip Hop Video category.

Her nomination follows her appearance as a songwriter on Beyoncé‘s ‘Renaissance’ album and delivery of a soundtrack in Marvel’s ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ movie.

Former United States President Barack Obama also listed her hit ‘Vibe’ in his annual summer playlist released Tuesday.

In June, Tems made history when she became the first Nigerian and African female musician to win the Best International Act at the BET Awards.

‘Wait For U’ which debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 earned Tems her third Billboard Hot 100 entry and made her the second Afrobeats act to reach number one on the chart.

The 2022 MTV awards ceremony will be held in New Jersey’s Prudential Center in Newark on Sunday, August 28th.
