Obaji Development Foundation seeks applications for counter-disinformation workshop

OBAJI Development Foundation (ODF) is inviting applications from qualified Nigerian journalists for its five-day Nigerian Counter-Disinformation Capacity-building Workshop.

The rise of disinformation campaigns, including Foreign Influence and Manipulation of Information (FIMI), poses a significant threat to media integrity and democratic processes in Africa. Nigeria, as a regional media hub, is a prime target for such campaigns, which exploit local vulnerabilities to sow division and manipulate narratives.

This five-day workshop aims to empower 20 Nigerian journalists with the skills, tools, and strategies to identify, analyse, and counter FIMI/disinformation while fostering ethical, fact-based reporting.

This workshop will among others equip participant with cutting-edge tools to detect disinformation campaigns; enhance participant’s understanding of disinformation strategies used by threat actors, with specific emphasis on Africa and Nigeria elections; promote collaborative fact-checking and investigative journalism network; and strengthen media literacy and public trust in Nigerian journalism.

The workshop is fully residential and will be hosted in Abuja by the foundation. Any person applying for this opportunity must have a minimum of two years of experience practicing journalism and work in print, electronic or online media in Nigeria.

Applicants must work in a reputable media or fact-checking organisation in Nigeria and must have the endorsement of his/her organisation’s editor or chief executive.

They must be willing to devote time to produce disinformation research and analysis after the training.

Intending participants must provide proof of previous fact-checking content published in the last 12 months.
