South Africa’s parole board says Oscar Pistorius, South African star athlete, will be released from prison next Tuesday – just a year after he was handed a five years jail term.
Pistorius has been in jail since his sentencing last year for killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in 2013.
The South African-born track and field athlete killed model and law graduate Steenkamp after he fired through a locked toilet door on February 14, 2013 claiming he thought she was an intruder.
The Olympic and Paralympic star was found guilty in September 2014 of homicide and manslaughter and was sentenced to five years in prison a month later.
But the court on Thursday announced that he will be release on correctional supervision or house arrest but the prosecution has appealed against the verdict, saying he should instead be convicted of murder.
