THE People’s Democratic Party, Kogi State chapter has suspended former senator, Dino Melaye, over alleged engagements in anti-party activities.
He was suspended by the party executive committee in Ayetoro/lluagba ward 1 following a review of the report set up by the disciplinary committee set up to look into his actions.
This was made known by the party’s ward chairman, Abayomi Osamika, and Secretary, Yodson Dayo, in a statement on Thursday, September 13 in Lokoja.
According to the statement, Melaye had disregarded the invitation and the authority of the party by not showing up.
“The ward party executive committee of the PDP in Ayetoro/lluagba ward 1 met on Friday the 13th of September 2024 to review the report of the disciplinary committee set up to investigate alleged anti-party activities against Senator Dino Melaye, a member of our great party.
“Recall senator Melaye was invited to appear before the disciplinary committee on 20th August 2024, to answer to certain allegations of misconduct and anti-party activities, in line with the provisions of Article 57(4), of the PDP Constitution.
“However, he failed to show up, disregarding the invitation and the authority of the party,” the statement read in parts.”
The ward party exco added that Melaye’s suspension is in line with Article 59(1) of the PDP Constitution, which gives authority to the ward executives to take disciplinary action against members who violate rules.
“After careful consideration and deliberation, the ward exco resolved as follows that senator Melaye’s failure to appear before the disciplinary committee constitutes a gross disrespect to the party and its leadership.
“That his actions are in clear violation of the PDP constitution and the principles of party discipline. That Senator Dino Melaye’s conduct has brought embarrassment and disrepute to the party, and his continued membership is no longer tenable.
“Therefore, the ward exco hereby suspends senator Melaye from the PDP, effective immediately,” it stated.
In 2023, The ICIR reports that Dino Melaye won the PDP governorship primary in Kogi State making him the party’s flag-bearer for the election in the state.
However, he lost to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Usman Ododo, and present governor of the state.
