President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday finally picked up the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, nomination form for the 2015 presidential election.
The President was met at the Wadata House national secretariat of the party in Abuja by a large crowd of supporters made up ministers, governors and other chieftains of the party.
The PDP presidential nomination form sells for N22 million, but Jonathan confirmed he received at least N100million as voluntary contributions from various groups and individuals to purchase it.
He expressed appreciation to the donors for the gesture and promised to work with all Nigerians to move the country forward.
The President also thanked the leadership of his party and all members for believing in me and for giving his their unalloyed support with the offer of right of first refusal.
“First let me thank God for today, and thank Nigerians that were here today for this brief ceremony…I could have still picked the form if they did not give me. But giving me the right of first refusal has attracted more people that ordinarily it would have had,” he said.
President Jonathan’s formal declaration is expected between November 7 and 15.
