President Jonathan Promises To Rebuild North East

President Googluck Jonathan has promised the people of Borno State that his administration would rebuild towns and villages destroyed by Boko Haram terrorists just as he assured that he would do everything possible to end the insurgency that has ravaged the North east.

The President, who spoke at the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential campaign rally held at the Ramat Square, Maiduguri, equally assured that the rehabilitation of victims of the insurgency would be soon commence.

“I am promising the whole of you that we shall surely end this insurgency. We will surely stop Boko Haram and we shall return Borno to the path of peace. Whatever it takes to do this and to ensure the return of the Chibok girls we will do. We will surely conquer Boko Haram. We will surely return this state to the peaceful state we know,” he stated.

Jonathan expressed regrets at the continuing attacks by terrorists, observing that it had greatly affected development in the state.

“Borno state can support the federal government in so many ways, but many people do not want to come to Borno state because to do this one may suffer because of the common enemy of the whole of the people of people.”

The President’s campaign in Maiduguri was affected by the security situation as many residents stayed home for fear of possible terrorist attacks. The expected crowds were therefore absent at the campaign rally.



“I was made to understand that some of you had to trek up to five kilometres to get here”, the President observed, adding that it was “necessary because of the security situation we found ourselves, we have to take every necessary precaution.”

Speaking at the event, former governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff, assured the President of victory by the PDP in Borno State.




     

     

    “If there is free and fair election in the Borno state Mr. President I can assure you that Shettima cannot score 30 per cent of the vote cast. I must also assure you that the whole of Borno is for you if we are going to conduct free and fair election,” he assured.

    Also speaking at the rally, former PDP chairman and director general of the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation, Ahmadu Ali, said that at this time in Nigeria’s history Nigerians would do well to return Jonathan to office.

    “It has been predicted that the fastest growing economy in the world in 2015 will be China, Qatar and Nigeria and the future of Nigeria is brighter under Goodluck Jonathan,” Ali stated

    The President’s campaign in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital was held amid very tight security as roads near the venue were blocked as early as 8.00 am and traffic diverted a situation which also prevented many people from attending the rally.
