The senate has confirmed the two ministerial nominees appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The nominees – Stephen Ocheni and Suleiman Hassan – were confirmed after fielding questions from the lawmakers during Wednesday’s plenary at the floor of the Senate.
Ocheni, from Kogi state replaces James Ocholi, former minister of state for labour, who died in an auto crash in 2015; while Hassan on the other hand, hails from Gombe State, and was appointed as a replacement for Amina Mohammed, former minister of environment, who recently took up appointment as the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations.
It would be recalled that Suleiman Hassan had been nominated by President Buhari as an Ambassador, but was later renominated as Minister.
After answering questions by the lawmakers, Senate President Bukola Saraki put the motion to a voice vote and majority of the members voted for the nominees to be confirmed.
