Senate Moves Rotimi Amaechi’s Screening To Thursday

The Senate has shifted the screening of ministerial nominee, Rotimi Amaechi, to Thursday owing to a delay in the submission of the report of its Committee on Ethics and Privileges and Public Petitions.

The chairman of the committee, Samuel Anyanwu, which is investigating a petition against the former Rivers State governor, told Senators on Wednesday that the report not ready.

Anyanwu blamed the delay on the late adjournment of the ministerial screening exercise on Tuesday, explaining that his committee members were too tired to meet and complete the report.

Amaechi’s nomination is being challenged by an “Integrity Group”, which petitioned the Senate accusing him of financial misappropriation while he was in office.

Meanwhile, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki urged the Anyanwu – led committee to get the report ready by Thursday.

Amaechi was originally scheduled for screening on Wednesday, along with nine other nominees.
