A suicide bomb attack on a village just outside Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, was averted early Friday by the combine effort of Nigerian soldiers and members of the Civilian JTF.
A statement issued on Friday by the acting Director, Army Public Relations, Sani Usman Kukasheka said that the two female suicide bombers were intercepted around 1.20 am Friday near Umurari village in the outskirts of Maiduguri.
One of the suicide bombers is said to have detonated the explosive device strapped to her body on sighting soldiers while the other was gunned down by a military sniper as she tried to escape.
Kukasheka stated that no other casualty was recorded in the incident and that soldiers and members of the youth vigilante group were combing the area to ensure that the place is secure.
He said further that a “combined team of Nigeria Police and Nigerian Army’s Explosive Ordinance Device team safely detonated the unexploded Improvised Explosive Devices strapped on the gunned down suicide bomber.”
