Sandy Thomas, who is the director, Global Panel on Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition, also suggested that government should subsidise nutritious foods in public places in order to make it more affordable to the populace.
The Ministry of health has said that the Nigerian Bottling Company Plc, NBC, adhered to both Nigerian and international safety standards in the making of its products, including Coca-Cola, Fanta and Sprite, and therefore, the soft drinks are fit for human consumption.

A Lagos High Court has declared that the National Agency For Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, was negligent in its duties and failed Nigerian consumers for allowing manufacture and sale of soft drinks that is unfit for human consumption.
