Select leaders of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, has reiterated the resolve of the entire sub-region that President of The Gambia, Yahya Jammeh, must quit office at the expiration of his tenure, having lost the presidential election held in the country in December.
Former Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament and Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, has called on the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, to have a rethink on its decision to deploy soldiers to The Gambia if incumbent President Yahya Jammeh refuses to step down at the expiration of his tenure on January 18.
The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, has said that troops from the sub-region have been placed on alert to intervene in The Gambia if President Yahya Jammeh refuses to step down next month.
The Gambia says it will pull of the International Criminal Court, ICC, after accusing the tribunal of persecuting and humiliating Africans. The small West African nation joins South Africa and Burundi in withdrawing from the court.
