PUBLISHER and Chief Executive Officer of Premium Times, Dapo Olorunyomi, has said the media must see itself as a producer of technological product in order to operate in a sustainable manner.
Olorunyomi spoke at a media sustainability conference held to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
He also spoke of the need to build the media as a knowledge-based organisation.
“There is a need for us to build the media as a knowledge organisation,” he said.
Olorunyomi, who spoke virtually at the event, also reiterated the need for the media industry to see itself as a business model that operates with innovation.
He added that there is a need for the media to measure its product to achieve desirable goals.
The Premium Times publisher, who hailed The ICIR on the anniversary, however, urged the media to ensure proper gatekeeping to defend the country’s democracy.
“If this country must survive, the media must be an instrument that drives accountability,” he said.
