Tinubu sacks CEOs of FCCPC, BPE

PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has sacked the chief executive officers of Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Babatunde Irukera, and his counterpart at the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Alexander Ayoola Okoh.

The Special Adviser to the President on media and publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, announced the dismissals in a statement on Monday, January 8.

Tinubu said the dismissals were part of Federal Government’s plans to restructure and reposition vital agencies in the country.

“In conformity with plans to restructure and reposition critical agencies of the Federal Government towards protecting the rights of Nigerian consumers and providing a strong basis for enhanced contributions to the nation’s economy by key growth-enabling institutions, President Bola Tinubu has dismissed the following chief executive officers: Mr. Babatunde Irukera —EVC/CEO, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and Mr. Alexander Ayoola Okoh— Director-General/CEO, Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE)”, part of the statement read.

The President directed the officers to hand over to the next most senior officer in their respective agency, noting that that the sacks took effect immediately.

The officers dismissals came hours after the President suspended the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, over alleged diversion of public fund into private account.
