PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu will be addressing the nation in a broadcast on Monday, June 12.
According to a statement issued on Sunday, June 11 by the State House director of information, Abiodun Oladunjoye, the president will address the nation at 7am to commemorate this year’s Democracy Day.
“Television, radio stations, and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and Radio Nigeria for the broadcast,” he asked.
In 2019, former President Mohammed Buhari, designated June 12 as Nigeria’s Democracy Day. Before then Nigeria was celebrating Democracy Day on May 29.
But Buhari directed that the celebration be marked on June 12 in honour of Moshood Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the 1993 presidential election, which was held on the same date.
June 12 has always been significant to Nigerians, many of whom refer to the election as the most peaceful and credible poll ever held in the country.
