Tribunal Sacks Ishaku, Declares Alhassan Governor Of Taraba State

Aisha-Alhassan

The Taraba State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Saturday declared the All Progressive Congress, APC, candidate, Aisha Alhassan, as bonafide winner of the April 11 gubernatorial polls in the state.

In its judgement, the tribunal headed by Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar sacked Darius Ishaku, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, directing that Alhassan be sworn in as the governor of the state.

Alhassan was recently appointed minister by President Muhammadu Buhari.

If the tribunal’s verdict stands, Alhassan will be Nigeria’s first female governor but Ishaku is expected to challenge the ruling at the Court of Appeal.
