The Nigerian Army has said that its troops have intercepted several Boko Haram insurgents fleeing the military’s onslaught in their camps in Sambisa Forest, killing many of them in the process.
Many of the insurgents were said to be trying to escape the notorious forest Boko Haram hideout through Pulka when they were intercepted by troops who were in position waiting for them.
Acting army spokesman, Sani Kukasheka Usman, a Colonel, said in a statement on Tuesday that one of the terrorists was captured alive during the operation
While military equipment including “a General Purpose Machine Gun, several rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunitions, 47 rifle magazines, 36 hand grenades and quite a number of Shilka gun empty shells,” were recovered from them.
Usman also said that Nigerian troops “dealt another decisive blow to the Boko Haram terrorists at Buni Yadi general area yesterday day afternoon” in an encounter during which “2 boxes of 7.62mm ammunitions and some Improvised Explosive making Devices cords” as well as a Toyota Hilux van were recovered from the insurgents.
