Unclaimed N49 Million Found At Kaduna Airport To Be Forfeited

The Federal High Court in Kaduna has ordered that the N49 million found by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, at the Kaduna International Airport, be temporarily forfeited to the federal government.

According to a statement by the EFCC, the forfeiture order follows a motion filed by the commission on Thursday.

The statement noted that the order was pursuant to Section 17 (2) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related offences act of 2006.

It stated that nobody had come up to claim the money 72 hours after it was discovered following intelligence report by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, in Kaduna State.

Justice S.M Shuaibu also directed the EFCC to publish the issue in any of the national newspapers across the country within a reasonable time to enable it move a motion for the final forfeiture in case no body or group comes forward to claim the money.

He subsequently adjourned the matter to April 3, 2017 for hearing.
