UNESCO Global Media Defence Fund calls for partnerships

UNESCO is seeking partners for the Global Media Defense Fund to enhance media protection and improve journalists’ access to specialised legal assistance.

Interested partners can submit proposals aimed at enhancing the legal protection of journalists covering the environment and reducing impunity for crimes against them.

Partners will undertake initiatives to upscale and/or operationalise actions that enhance journalists’ legal protection and their access to legal assistance.

NGOs, media or lawyers’ associations, media development agencies, foundations, academic institutions and noncommercial media institutions can apply for this program.

The total grant allocated for this programme is US$350,000. Selected organisations can request US$15,000 to US$35,000.

The organiser says.”the fund was established thanks to initial donations by the governments of the United Kingdom and Canada. This fund is one of the outcomes of the Global Campaign for Media Freedom, and contributes to advancing the UN Plan of Action on the safety of journalists and the issue of impunity”.

The deadline for the submission of entry is October 18, 2024. Interested applicants can apply here.
