The Adamawa State House of Assembly has asked the state government to pick up the bills of the WAEC and NECO, examination for students in the state who have been displaced from their homes by the Boko Haram insurgency.
The member of the House representing Michika, Adamu Kamale, who moved a motion to that effect on Tuesday, noted that the displaced students, some of who have lost their parents to the insurgency, are too indigent to pay their exam fees.
Many of them, he noted, face the risk of not sitting for their final exam if the state government does not step in to bear the cost of their fees.
Lamenting the atrocities committed by the Boko Haram insurgents in the state, including the killing of innocent people, Kamale said the living conditions of displaced persons had worsened, adding that they could barely feed themselves.
In the motion, the lawmaker appealed to the state governor, Bala James Ngillari,
to ensure that the government picks up the bills for all students who have been displaced from their communities and would be sitting for their final papers this year.
The motion was seconded by Aliyu Iya, representing Uba/Gaya constituency, who said it is a step in the right direction as the government would be enhancing the development of future leaders from the state.
Also supporting the motion, member representing Gombi constituency Jerry Kumdisi, stated that the motion was timely in view of the condition of many of the displaced students.
The lawmaker said the students who are going through a lot of suffering should not have the extra burden of thinking of where to get money to pay the exam fees
