Xbox TV app streams without console this month

SAMSUNG’S 2022 smart TVs will be the first to get Microsoft’s new Xbox app which streams games without a console, Microsoft has announced

In June, Microsoft will launch its Xbox TV app permitting users of Samsung’s 2022 smart TVs and monitors to play Xbox games without a console.

The Corporate Vice President of Xbox gaming experiences and platforms, Ashley McKissick, said there are plans to explore other TV partnerships.

“We are bringing the Xbox App to Samsung Smart TVs first, and our intent is to explore other TV partnerships as part of this next evolution in our vision,” she said.

Microsoft has partnered with Samsung for the initial rollout of the Xbox app, but it is not precise when it will be available on other TVs or even older Samsung models.

The Xbox TV app is a giant leap for Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming and Game Pass ambitions. Microsoft has been developing Xbox Cloud Gaming, bringing the service to iOS devices and even to the web, Xbox One consoles, and PCs.

The Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will access over 100 games via Samsung’s 2022 smart TVs.

The stream will be cloud-powered by custom Xbox Series X hardware. Users who are not subscribers of Game Pass Ultimate can gain access through Fortnite which is available to stream free of charge.

The Xbox TV app will be available in 27 countries from June 30th on Samsung’s gaming hub.
