VOTING has commenced at different polling units in Osun State as voters elect a governor who leads the state for another four years today.

At polling Unit 03, Holy Trinity Primary School, Oke Ofa Ward in Ifelodun Local Government Area, Osun State, electoral officers prioritised elderly voters and persons with disabilities to cast their ballots first as voting opened at 8:49 am.

Voters were seen queuing to check their names on the voter register as the voting commenced, while others waited peacefully to cast their votes.

Security personnel were also deployed at the polling centre to maintain order and monitor the process.

Voting has also commenced across polling units in Ede South Local Government Area, with party agents casting their votes first at Polling Unit 011, Baptist Primary School Iseki Oloro, Jagun Jagun Ward 03.

The electoral officers were seen given priority to elderly voters and persons with disabilities.

Adebunmi Mashood, an elderly voter living with a disability, spoke with The ICIR after casting his ballot. He expressed joy at participating in the exercise and hoped his preferred candidate would win.

However, another resident of Ede South, Munir Alimi Akintunde, 66, expressed frustration after failing to collect his voter card while calling on political actors and supporters to maintain peace and calm during the poll.

The ICIR reported that the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election, will face the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) Bola Oyebamiji; and the African Democratic Congress’ (ADC) Najeem Salam, and 11 other candidates at the poll.

The ICIR also reported that at least 73 election-related violent incidents were recorded in the state between October 2025 and July 2026, with 78 per cent occurring between May and July.
