Project Brief

This project endeavors to facilitate the capacity building of journalists, enabling them to undertake comprehensive investigative reporting endeavors on government health policies, particularly emphasizing the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) and Midwives Service Scheme (MSS), which are designed to cater to the needs of the most vulnerable segments of society as envisioned by the Nigeria government.

Through an investigation conducted by the ICIR, the project aims to elucidate the myriad constraints and factors impeding states from accessing these crucial funds, despite the glaring deterioration of primary healthcare centers across various communities. Furthermore, the initiative seeks to shed light on pertinent policy and oversight issues while exploring the potential for implementing community-driven accountability mechanisms aimed at addressing the pervasive corruption within the healthcare sector.
