APC leads in Edo governorship election after INEC announced results in 16 LGAs

THE All Progressives Congress (APC) is currently leading in the Edo State governorship election conducted on Saturday, September 21.

The party is leading with over 48,000 votes in results from 16 local government areas (LGAs) out of the state’s 18 LGAs.

The ICIR reports that the APC has won 10 out of the 16 local government areas (LGAs) declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

A serving senator representing Edo Central, Monday Okpebholo, is the APC’s candidate, while a successful business, Asue Ighodalo, flies the PDP’s flag.

Seventeen political parties fielded candidates in the election.

As the final collation is being done by INEC at its state headquarters today, Sunday, September 22, in Benin City, the state capital, The ICIR presents the results of the two leading parties – the APC and PDP – from 16 out of 18 LGAs announced so far by the commission.

    The INEC resident electoral commissioner in the state, Anugbum Onuoha, said further announcement on the result would resume by 5 pm.

    Editor’s Note: The report was updated to reflect that the total is 244,549 and not 244,489. Also under Uhunmwonde LGA, APC has 8,776 and not 8,766.
