EFCC summons Bobrisky, VeryDarkMan over bribery allegations against its officers

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned popular Nigerian cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, otherwise known as Bobrisky, and self-acclaimed activist, Martins Otse, known as VerDarkMan, over bribery allegations against its officers.

The commission in a statement signed by its chairman, Ola Olukoyede, and shared via its official X account Tuesday night ordered an immediate investigation into the allegations.

According to the chairman in the statement, VeryDarkMan had shared a video on social media stating that Bobrisky gave some officers of the commission 15 million naira to drop the money laundering charges against him.

“Okuneye, an ex-convict, had alleged in a video powered by a blogger, Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, that some unnamed officers of the EFCC collected the sum of ₦15 million from him to drop money laundering charges against him.

“In a swift reaction, the EFCC’s boss has constituted a team of investigators to critically look into the allegations. To this end, the commission hereby invites both Okuneye and Otse to make themselves available at its Lagos Directorate to assist investigators unearth the alleged bribery,” the statement reads in part.

Olukoyede assured Nigerians of making the result of the investigation public.

Recall in April, The ICIR reported that Bobrisky was arrested and detained by the EFCC in Lagos and was sentenced to six months without an option of a fine for abusing the Nigerian naira.

However, in August, he regained freedom and was released from the Kirirki Correctional Centre. Upon his release, he urged Nigerians to desist from spraying the naira, the offence that took him to jail.
